• Yes, There really were Pirates •
How did they dress?
• The pirates of the 1700's had a different clothing style. The majority of the pirates wore tircorn hats, long coats, knee breeches, buckled shoes, and bucket topped boots.
What did they eat?
• The pirates of the 1700's ate awful things. Most of the things they ate were rotten. The food was rotten because there weren't any refrigerators back in the 1700's. The pirates of the 1700's ate salted or dried pork and biscuits. Buccaneers are named because of their love of pork. They craved their pork on a rack, rather then cooking it over a fire. The pirates in the 1700's loved to drink rum. Some pirates were paid in rum rather than money.
How did they live?
• The pirates of the 1700's lived very adventurous lives, like taking over ships and sailing across the large seas. The ships they stayed on were practically their home.
Where were they from?
• In the 1700's you could find pirates on the coasts of England, Ireland, the Caribbean Islands, and many other warm places.
How did you get to be a pirate captain?
• On some pirate ships they would elect their captain based on the skills they had. If you had great gunnery skills and were the bravest and most daring pirate, they would choose the captain based on that. If the Captain fell in disfavor the crew would either make them walk the plank, or if the crew was nice enough, they would drop him off at the nearest port.
